Celton Manx Welcomes West Ham Olympic Stadium Decision

by isleofman.com 16th February 2011
Celton Manx, the operator of award-winning SBOBET (www.sbobet.com) is welcoming the decision by the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) to allow West Ham United to take over the Olympic stadium after the games in 2012. SBOBET is the global leader in online sports betting and live casino services and the principal sponsor of the club. The OPLC unanimously chose the bid from West Ham United and Newham Council over a rival proposition from Tottenham Hotspur. The club has committed to keep a legacy for sport in Stratford by retaining the running track for athletics events and creating a facility for cricket matches. The move to the Olympic Stadium will see the capacity of the West Ham home stadium increase from 35,000 at Upton Park to 60,000. Bill Mummery, Executive Director of SBOBET said: ‘We are delighted that the West Ham United bid for the Olympic Stadium was successful, a huge amount of effort was put into the proposal by the club and Newham Council driven by the Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales. The plans that have been accepted for the stadium provide the best sports legacy for the community of the Stratford area of East London. The Newham community has always been behind this bid for the stadium and we are delighted to be associated with a club that has such a strong community ethos and spirit. ‘Becoming the principal sponsor of West Ham United was a natural fit for SBOBET as the club shares our values of supporting the local community through sport. In the Isle of Man we support the national football team, Castletown Hockey Club and the Island’s Commonwealth Games Team among others. The Olympic Stadium will provide inspiration to young, aspiring sportsmen and women for many years to come and we are very proud to be a part of it.’ ENDS
