New Arrivals At The Curraghs Wildlife Park

by isleofman.com 17th February 2011
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure is delighted to announce that two baby Meerkats have been enjoying the great outdoors for the first time over the Valentine’s weekend. Hon. David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said, “We are very proud of our Meerkats. This is the second litter for the proud parents and we are thrilled that we already have the beginnings of a Mob! I’m sure they will be a great attraction for visitors to the Park during the upcoming half term holiday.” Young Meerkats are almost perfect miniatures of adults and the Curraghs Wildlife Park’s babies already adopt the characteristic posture of standing on their hind legs to sun bathe or stand watch over their surroundings. If you would like to get up close and personal with the Meerkats, our ‘Meet a Meerkat Experience’ provides you with the perfect opportunity. Visitors taking advantage of the offer get the chance to have a close encounter with the Meerkats, being allowed to feed them and given a photograph, certificate and soft toy all boxed for presentation. For more information on how to book a ‘Meet a Meerkat Experience’, please call the Wildlife Park directly on Tel. No. 897323. The baby Meerkats are not the only new arrivals at the Park, as a baby Penguin hatched before Christmas and emerged from the nest burrow at the end of January. The Minister added, “As well as the Park’s delightful new arrivals, the soft play area in the Close Beg Play Barn has been revamped and extended to give an even better experience for younger children visiting the Park. There are also all your favourite Park attractions and one of the best Nature Trail walks in the Isle of Man. So if you are looking for a great day out this half term, visit the Curraghs Wildlife Park!” The Curraghs Wildlife Park is open at weekends and daily throughout half term from 10am.
