Thompson C – 17 v Nobody’s Angels - 27 Nobody’s Angels took an early lead, and never looked back, as they claimed their first victory of the season. Thompson got off to a great start but a mis-aimed shot allowed the Angels to score on the counter attack. It was all one-way traffic until the second quarter when Thompson began to close the gap. The last few minutes of the game became frantic, as the Angels made sure the elusive victory wouldn’t slip from their grasp. PoTM: Ellie Howell-Evans (Thompson C); Kerry Cowin (Nobody’s Angels) C&S Joinery B - 24 v Toomraiders – 33 First Division C&S B put on a good show to keep their Premier Division counterparts in close quarters in a tough match against Toomraiders. Raiders’ dominated from the start, netting three in a row to open up scoring. After being immediately put on the back foot, C&S struggled to make an impact and began to make mistakes. It wasn’t until the third quarter they got themselves back in the game, but a little too late to catch up. PoTM: Ellen Charmer (C&S Joinery B); Carly Singer (Toomraiders) C&S Joinery C - 26 v PWC Emeralds - 25 In the tightest cup game of the day C&S Joinery C edged out PWC Emeralds with a last minute shot in extra time. Emeralds took early control as C&S struggled to convert many of their chances. Their dominance faltered by the second quarter as everything went in C&S’s favour. This signalled the direction of game, with neither team able to command momentum. In a rare event both teams were tied as the final whistle went, forcing them to go in to extra time. Playing two minutes each way it was a mad dash to score and it was C&S who was the only team to net it. Emeralds came very close, but their only shot hit the pole, to give C&S the ball seconds before the whistle went. PoTM: Jess Hatton (C&S Joinery); Sarah Curphey (PWC Emeralds) Ballasalla B – 28 v C&S Joinery A – 36 Meeting for the second time in two weeks C&S Joinery A edged passed Ballasalla B with an almost identical score to their last game. C&S dominated proceedings in the first quarter scoring almost all the goals. Balla retaliated and brought back the lead C&S created early on. The power struggle between the two Premier Division sides continued until the final whistle, but it was C&S who progress in to the next round. PoTM: Gemma White (Ballasalla B); Lizzie Lennon (C&S Joinery A) Ballasalla A - 30 v Route 1 - 27 Ballasalla continued their unbeaten run this season beating Route 1 30 - 27. Route 1 made an early impression, but couldn’t translate the effort in to a goal. It was business as usual for Balla, until three falls in quick succession put them off their stride. The ice packs got a lot of use as two Balla players went over on their ankles minutes apart. Route 1 took advantage of this disruption, but there wasn’t enough time to bridge the gap. PoTM: Kate Reynolds (Balla A) Kat Keeling (Route 1) Thompson A - 35 v PWC Rubies - 40 Rubies got their own back having been beaten by Thompson in their last meeting, despite going down to six players at one stage. The Rubies opened up the scoring after intercepting a Thompson pass near the circle. Thompson made some early errors as they tried to keep up with the pace of the game. Rubies made sure Balla weren’t the only ones using the ice pack as their goal keeper went over on her ankle and had to sit out of most of the second quarter. This seemed to spur Thompson on and they continued the form until the end of the game but were just a little late to turn the result around. PoTM: Pip Cross (Thompson A); Kelly Sherratt (PWC Rubies) Cup Match Results: Sunday 20th February 2011 Thompson C 17, Nobody's Angels 27; C&S Joinery B 24, Toomraiders 33; Manx Glass Saints 40, Fencibles B 0; C&S Joinery C 26, PWC Manx Gems Emeralds 25; Ballasalla B 28, C&S Joinery A 36; Ramsey 14, Missfits 59; Ashley Allstars 13, Vanilla Room 54; Ballasalla A 30, Roue 1 27; Thompson A 35, PWC Manx Gems Rubies 40; Anglo Manx Electrical Services 15, Thompson B 20; Fencibles A 0, PokerStars 40.
