Tues 1 March 2011, Manx Museum
The One World Centre is coordinating the IoM launch of the groundbreaking presentation ‘1.4 billion reasons’ from The Global Poverty Project (GPP) during Fairtrade Fortnight 2011, in association with the Manx Cooperative.
The presentation will be held on Tuesday 1 March at the Manx Museum lecture theatre and will focus on the simple yet vital actions that people can take to end the extreme poverty that affects 1.4 billion people worldwide. Rather than asking for donations, the GPP seeks to inspire positive action in people. The presentation explains how our everyday actions – what we learn, say, buy, give and do – can be connected to the ending of extreme poverty.

The Isle of Man launch will be presented by GPP cofounder Simon Moss, a leading campaigning and community education expert. He has contributed his expertise on development issues at some of the world's leading conferences including the G20, the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative. Simon will also be speaking to sixth formers in all of the secondary schools and KWC and the College while he is on the Island.
The event has been arranged to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight, marking the Isle of Man’s third year as a Fairtrade Island. Gillian Hannah from the Cooperative will also be there to talk about Fairtrade.
