Iain McDonald, Isle of Man Data Protection Supervisor –
‘Technology & Privacy: Challenges, Threats and Solutions’

Isle of Man Data Protection Supervisor Iain McDonald will address ICSA IOM on 7th March as part of their regular series of events.
At the event, sponsored by Appleby Isle of Man, Mr McDonald will explore the challenges and threats that technology in particular poses to privacy and how these are starting to be addressed.
Iain McDonald has been the Island’s Data Protection Supervisor since 2003 and oversaw the introduction of the current Data Protection Act and the Unsolicited Communications Regulations. Prior to this appointment, Iain worked for the General Registry including a prolonged appointment as Acting Chief Registrar. Iain’s background is in IT and during his time in the Registry he was responsible for the development of the Island’s computerised land registration system and the Axiom courts and fines management system. Prior to moving to the Island in 1994, Iain worked for a multinational company which specialised in Geographic Information Systems.
