Peel Group Practice will be relocating to their new purpose built state of the art surgery over a four day period between Friday 25 and Monday 28 February 2011. The new practice is located behind the ‘Corrin Home’ and is accessed via Albany Close off Albany Road. There is also a gated access point from ‘Westlands’ for pedestrians. The doors will open to patients at 8am on Monday 28 February 2011, with the last day in the Derby Road premises being Friday 25 February 2011 until 6pm as usual. Given the significant logistical exercise in moving premises, only emergency or urgent appointments and urgent home visits will be available on these particular days and patients are asked to try to avoid contacting the surgery for routine matters. Repeat prescriptions will also require two working days notice, unless they are needed in an emergency. Normal service will resume on Tuesday 1 March 2011 when the new surgery will come into full operation. Minister for Health, David Anderson MHK said “This is truly a landmark moment for community healthcare in the West of the Island. The new surgery will continue to meet the medical demands of a growing population in the West of the Island from Peel and the surrounding areas such as the parishes of Patrick and German. This will enable the provision of enhanced care in cutting edge, modern surroundings, which bring with them increased space and facilities for medical and nursing practitioners.” The existing surgery in Derby Road, Peel was originally an Old School House that has been adapted over the years. In those early days, the services available from a GP practice were quite different and did not incorporate the same range of enhanced services that are available from GPs and Practice Nurses today. The new surgery, which will also be the base for the Community Nursing Team for the West of the Island, provides space for six doctors, three nurses and twelve administration staff to care for the Practice’s 8,100 patients. Dr Malcolm Guild, Senior Partner, commented “This new facility has been much needed for several years. We are very pleased to be moving into it and very much welcome the improvements to patient care it will allow us to make.” The new surgery is a two minute walk from either of the nearby bus stops on Albany Road and Derby Road. The new surgery address is: Peel Group Practice, Albany Road, Peel, IM5 1HU. The telephone and fax numbers will remain the same as they are now. The Practice Manager, Janece Pugh, added “This has been a long awaited facility for Peel. We have been struggling for a number of years in the old premises and it is very exciting to be moving to a new purpose built surgery.
