Poetry Society Seeks Mann's Favourite Poems

by isleofman.com 24th February 2011
What is your favourite poem and why? That’s the question asked by Isle of Man Poetry Society as they seek contributions for a new poetry anthology “Mann’s Favourite Poems”. With the generous support of the Arts Council, the Isle of Man Poetry Society is putting together a collection of poems chosen by the people of the Isle of Man. The poems can be old or new, famous or obscure. The Society proposes to publish the selected poems together with the reasons for choosing them in order to give a view of the Island and its people today, through a poetic prism. Nigel McGowan, Chairman, Isle of Man Poetry Society said “We hope that the end result will make fascinating reading and will give the compilation meaning and substance that will be of interest to a broad readership.” People wishing to participate in the project are invited to send their poem, along with a few paragraphs on why it is meaningful for them to contactus@iom-poetry.org by 1st May 2011. The Isle of Man Poetry Society was founded in 2000 and publishes a regular poetry booklet “Under The Hill” which features original poetry from society members. The society meets for “Poetry and Pints” at 8pm on the third Sunday of each month at The Meeting Room, Archibald Knox in Onchan. The next meeting is 20th March 2011. -ENDS -
