Have you got what it takes to haul yourself along a thin piece of rope whilst dangling 80ft in the air over one of the Island’s most picturesque valleys? That’s the challenge being laid down by The Children’s Centre for this year’s ‘Dare To Live’ event. On Saturday April 2 a total of 100 thrill seekers are being offered the chance to complete a ‘Tyrolean traverse’ - similar to a ‘zip wire’ rope descent but with the starting and finishing points at the same height - across Dhoon Glen near Laxey.
The Children’s Centre Mobex team - who are experts in a wide range of adventure activities - will instruct and supervise participants as they make the 150 foot crossing using ropes and pulleys. Those with a head for heights who sign up for the challenge need to raise a minimum of ?100 in sponsorship with all proceeds going to The Children’s Centre charitable projects Out2Play, Mobex, Child Contact Centre and Philip Christian Centre.
Mark Eastham, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Children’s Centre, said:
“This will be only the second time this type of Tyrolean traverse event has been organised in the Isle of Man so this year’s Dare To Live Challenge is a rare opportunity for anyone to experience a new and exciting activity.”
Last year the “Dare To Live” event proved be a big success with 99 brave volunteers abseiling 70 feet from the top of Royal Bank House, Victoria Street, Douglas. The Children’s Centre provided the abseiling experts to make sure everyone got up and down safely and the event raised a total of ?15,000.
No previous experience is required to take part in the Tyrolean traverse and to secure a place participants are asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of ?30. This will be included in the total target of ?100, the minimum amount each individual is asked to raise.
