Douglas Borough Council is to refurbish Woodbourne Square. The ?100,000 project will include renewing the paths in tarmac, painting the perimeter railings, installing new metal benches finished in black similar to those on Douglas Promenade, upgrading the drainage system and supplementing the existing planting. The sundial in the centre of the square will also be restored. Leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘Our garden squares are a unique feature in Douglas and, once refurbished, Woodbourne Square will benefit from a new lease of life. I would, however, respectfully remind the public that dogs are not allowed in any of our garden squares and it is to be hoped that the Borough’s bye-laws regarding dog fouling and litter are observed in order that Woodbourne Square remains a pleasant green and open space in the heart of Douglas.’ Ends
