At 7.30pm on Friday 1st April 2011 at the Strand Shopping Centre in Douglas, the Manx Wearable Art Show will be taking place to raise money for local charity The Children’s Centre.
The organisers of the Manx Wearable Art show invite any individuals or groups with a flair for fashion or art to get involved and enter an outfit. The Isle of Man College students will be contributing to the show as part of a specially devised group project.
One of the organisers Doreen Dixon said, ‘The show is open to entries from anyone and any material can be used: fabric stained glass, paper, wood, metal, rubber, plastic, flotsam and all kinds of recycled goods. It only needs to be strong enough to survive the catwalk and striking enough to enhance the show’.
Wearable Art was started in New Zealand in 1987 and the show was started in the Isle of Man in 2005 and the event has gone from strength. This year the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Children’s Centre.
Michelle O’Malley, Fundraising Manager for The Children’s Centre said, ‘We’re so grateful that the Wearable Art Show has chosen to support us and we just hope the Manx community get behind the initiative to support them. On a personal note I’m also very excited to see what designs everyone comes up with so it’s definitely one not to be missed’.
Tickets for the live catwalk show are now on sale at ?6.00 each from Modeltech, Unit 9A, Strand Shopping Centre.
Doreen, Sue and Myra will be at the Strand Centre on Saturday 12th March, from 11.00am to 3.00pm to offer advice and further information to anyone interested in participating in or attending the show.
