The Children Centre Nursery based on Woodbourne Road, Douglas, took part in World Book Day on Wednesday 3 March 2011 to celebrate books and the importance of reading stories to children. In the true spirit of the educational and hands-on day, staff and children got dressed up as their favourite story characters and were encouraged to bring in their best loved books from home to be read at story time. The effort which was put in to this event was truly impressive and everyone involved seized upon the fun and inclusive nature of the day. World Book Day Tokens were also given to parents to put towards their child’s next book purchase.
Rachel Staley, Head of Early Years and Playwork at The Children’s centre, said:
"Giving children good books at an early age will encourage them to be well read and smart individuals. Reading with children will encourage them even more so. Reading a story with children at bedtime is a part of many families’ bedtime routine and is an excellent way to let kids relax. Reading takes our children to places where their imaginations can soar, where they can problem-solve, empathise and gain insight into other times, places and cultures."
The Children’s Centre provides two nurseries; a baby nursery for children aged from birth to eighteen months which is located on Park Road, and a pre-school nursery on Woodbourne Road. In both settings children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the staff teams offer opportunities to experience and enjoy all forms of play and learning.
