The Isle of Man Sea Safety Roadshow, an RNLI and Isle of Man Coastguard joint initiative promoting safety at sea, will be visiting Ramsey, Peel, Douglas and Port St Mary over the next two weekends.
On Saturday 12th March between 10 am and 2 pm the show will be near Ramsey Lifeboat Station on Queens Promenade. On Sunday 13th March, also between 10 am and 2 pm, the show will be at Peel, in the boatyard car park. The following weekend, and at the same times, on Saturday 19th March the venue is to be Douglas Bay Yacht Club and on Sunday 20th March the show travels southside to Port St Mary, by the harbour office.
At this time of year leisure craft owners are busily preparing to enjoy a summer season on the sea and even the most experienced of mariners needs to be prepared for the worst happening.
Gordon Dickens, RNLI Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer for the Isle of Man, and Phil Adams, section manager of the Isle of Man Coastguard and RNLI Sea Safety volunteer, will be on hand at all four venues to welcome both novice boat owners and experienced seafarers alike with practical information regarding safety at sea. Boat owners and their crew members will have the opportunity to ask questions, chat about equipment or emergency procedures and also have their lifejackets checked.
Gordon, himself an enthusiastic yachtsman, says “Phil and I enjoy talking boats and this is a good opportunity for us to meet with other boat owners and compare ideas. We are always happy to check over lifejackets or talk about sea safety equipment and if anyone wants to come along we would love to see them.”
