Ramsey Primary Schools ‘Go Potty’ To Trumpet the Arrival of Spring

by isleofman.com 14th March 2011
Students from Scoill Ree Gorree and Auldyn Primary School have ‘gone potty’ and sprung into action to submit their entries in Ramsey Town Commissioners’ annual primary schools’ daffodil bulb competition, now in its 31st year, Local horticultural expert Pat Goodway and Ramsey Town Commissioners’ head gardener Ken Barnes visited the two schools, appropriately on the launch day of Ramsey in Bloom, to judge the entries and were joined by Ramsey Town Commissioners’ lead member for parks and leisure Kevin Crowe. Each year the Commission’s parks department provides pupils with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The children then grow their bulbs at home and bring them to school for judging. Mr Barnes explained that when judging he and Mrs Goodway were looking for daffodils ‘fresh and bright’ in colour complemented by healthy upright foliage. Scoill Ree Gorree is the current holder of the Ramsey primary schools bulb competition trophy. The results for 2011 will be announced later this month. Ends
