Family Charity to carry on the work of former Mayor Dot Pitts Douglas, ISLE OF MAN, 14th March 2011 – A new charity is to be set to be launched on the Island at a Launch Event at Douglas Town Hall on 6th April 2011, in memory of former Douglas Mayor Dot Pitts. The charity – aptly named “Dot’s Dream Foundation” - has been set up by Mrs Pitts children. The Foundation will continue the fantastic work Dot carried out over the years, in particular during her mayoral term in 2008/09 when she raised in excess of ?36,000 for local charities. The foundations immediate aims are to purchase certain items of equipment for cancer sufferers and their families, and then to support local causes including both individuals and other charities. Speaking about the formation of the charity, Debbie, Dot’s daughter said “Mum was always involved in raising money for as long as I can remember. Whether it be for the mayoral charities, the Hospice or even the people of Gambia she got involved in everything – and had good fun at the same time! As a family we wanted to carry on mum’s momentum and raise funds for the causes she supported in her memory so that’s why we have launched “Dot’s Dream Foundation” The charity have many events planned over the next few months including a “Cycle the TT Course” and plan to take part in the Parish Walk, the Relay for Life and the Hospice Midnight Walk. The charity’s first event, a Casino Night on 8th April 2011 is sold out, and the next event will be a ‘Hot Gossip Hairdressing Day’ on 15th May 2011, those wishing to have their hair done with all monies going to the charity should call Kath at the Hot Gossip Salon on 675678 to make an appointment. The charity are encouraging anyone who wants to get involved to get in touch via their Facebook page “Dot’s Dream Foundation” or by emailing dotsdream@manx.net. -ENDS-
