At 1:45pm on Thursday 17th March 2011 The Chief Constable of the Isle of Man Constabulary will be proud to host his annual awards ceremony at the Garden Room, Sefton Hotel, Douglas in the presence of his His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB and Lady Haddacks, and other honoured guests.
Chief Constable Mike Langdon says: “This is a particularly special time of the year where I have the opportunity to pay tribute to the service and dedication shown by officers, volunteers, support staff and members of the public throughout the course of the year. It is thanks to their commitment and quality of service that the Island remains one of the safest places to live, work and travel to.”

DC Haddock is commended for painstaking effort and skill, which directly led to the securing of vital forensic evidence that helped bring about the conviction of Simon Paul Leece for murder and arson.

for Selfless Bravery
Showing complete disregard for his personal safety, PC Schumacher entered the outer harbour in Douglas in difficult and dangerous conditions in order to save the life of a woman who was in serious danger of drowning. In her words: “I thank you for saving my life.....I can’t thank you enough, you put your life in danger to save me. Thanks is not enough.”
THE ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY (UK)
Founded in 1891 the Society has more than 11,000 members in 50 branches and 3,000 active lifesaving and lifeguarding clubs and Approved Training Centres throughout the UK and Ireland.
Lifesavers can bridge the gap between an incident being discovered and the emergency services arriving. In effect they can make a crucial difference. Emergencies don’t just happen to other people or while at work – it could be your family or your friends who may need life saving skills – to save their lives. The Society wish to recognise the follow officers for their live saving achievements.

Constable 269 David Schumacher
Constable Schumacher showed bravery and composure in wading into the sea in Douglas Bay to make contact with a man who appeared to have the intention of taking his own life. It soon became apparent that the man was facing difficulties in the water and that communication would soon be lost. Constable Schumacher swam towards the man where he supported him using life saving techniques until he was swiftly recovered from the water. At the time Constable Schumacher had only completed 5 months of his 2 year probationary period.
And also for the incident for which he has received a Commendation for Selfless Bravery today.
Constable 246 Adam Hawkes
Constable Hawkes showed bravery and coolness of thought in swimming to the rescue of a man who was drowning in Douglas Bay. In difficult and dangerous conditions he kept the man safe for twenty minutes until rescue services could reach him, putting his own life at risk in the process. He undoubtedly saved the man’s life.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE AWARD TROPHY
Awarded for developing an effective and meaningful partnership between the police and the community aimed at enhancing community safety and bringing about mutual understanding.

The Snake Pitt Project: Mr William Sutton, Mr Andre De-Brussac Bernard, Mr Owen Hegarty and Mr Josh Brand
The Snake Pit Project brought together young people, the police, the youth service and Douglas Corporation in an initiative aimed at harnessing the energies of young people, whilst providing an important facility in the heart of Douglas. It showed the benefits of working together.
ISLE OF MAN POLICE FEDERATION CUP FOR SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC
Awarded for consistently high levels of service to the public.

Following the tragic death of Mr Grady, the staff of the Constabulary purchased this trophy so that Les could be remembered by the annual presentation of this cup awarded to the member of staff for outstanding contribution or achievement in the sporting arena.

Juan Kinley has spent his whole life achieving excellence in sport. He is a world class triathlete, who has represented Great Britain on the world stage, as well as representing the Isle of Man at sports as disparate as football and badminton.

Following the tragic death of Constable Kennaugh, his family asked for him to be remembered by the annual presentation of this cup awarded to the Probationer who has shown the most promise, aptitude and enthusiasm during their training months.

Passionate about the need for the police to work with the community and, in particular, with young people, Andy Reed exemplifies the importance that the Isle of Man Constabulary attaches to neighbourhood policing. His efforts at working with and for the community have paid dividends, both in Laxey, where has been stationed, but also in terms of the Constabulary’s approach to working with schools right across the Island.

Previous Commandant of the Special Constabulary, Lieutenant Colonel Roy Leeder initiated this trophy to be awarded to the best achiever in the Isle of Man Special Constabulary.

To many people – but particularly the young – he is the visible, friendly and recognisable face of the police in Peel. Sid Bell simply gets on with his work, which means providing a consistently sound service to the entire community.
R. K. EASON TROPHY
This Trophy was donated to the Isle of Man Constabulary in 1969 by the High Bailiff Mr R K Eason in appreciation of the Service during his time in office. He asked it be awarded to one or more officers who contributed the most outstanding performance in the fields of Police Service (in all aspects).
In the past recipients have included people who have exhibited extreme courage, through to other officers who have been recognised for outstanding work over many years. The Trophy is rightly seen as being the Constabulary’s primary award.
