Art Exhibition

by isleofman.com 17th March 2011
Inspired An Exhibition of Oil painting, Hand built pottery and Sculpture. In summer 2000, Anna Clucas, who was born in the Isle of Man, graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a BA Honours degree in Ceramics and Printmaking. Previous to that, she attended the Isle of Man College completing an advanced GNVQ in Art and Design, A Levels textiles, Ceramics, Art and Design and studied for one year on the on the Art and Design Foundation course. Anna was also the Artist and residence at the Sayle Gallery from 2005/2006. ?Discovering by chance Anna found a new love for oil painting. Using vivid colours and confident brush strokes in which she possesses a unique eye for landscape and abstraction. ?In Anna's words she says; Inspired started with the working title of 'Appealing to the Masters. The first thing I crave when embarking on a new project is to take notes from my Artistic predecessors. At this point I felt compelled to not move any further. Whilst looking at the famous oil painting 'Snowstorm' by J.M.W Turner I had a compulsion to paint it. The idea was to not copy the painting, but to extract his colour scheme and imagine I was standing in his waders while he used his love and knowledge of the sea to create this dramatic masterpiece. I found the experience of creating an alter ego of a master very interesting, so I went on to become the famous potter Magdalene Odundo, Impressionist, Claude Monet and the Artist who's courage and will I have always admired, Vincent Van Gogh, to name but a few. The work encompasses a range of subjects that had been developed on the way from the Planets to the the earth to the constellations to the seasons. The energy and the vibrance as usual will be a major factor of the show, with a special juxtaposition between light and dark or in painting terms the polychrome and monochrome. Inspired will run from 8th April - 1st May 2011 at the Sayle Gallery, Villa Marina Colonnade, Douglas.
