Another Successful Housing Scheme for the Department of Social Care

by isleofman.com 18th March 2011
The Department of Social Care is pleased to announce the completion of 24 first time buyer’s homes at Ridgeway Road, Onchan. Convery Close, as the estate will be known, consists of 24 properties- 18 x two-bedroom and 6 x three-bedroom houses and have proved to be very popular as they have already been allocated to applicants on the register of first time buyers. Minister for Social Care, Hon Martyn Quayle MHK commented: “I am really pleased with this impressive and attractive mews development, which is not only close to all the local amenities but also provides good quality affordable homes for those on the register of first time buyers. “The main issue in 2001 when I was elected to the House of Keys was provision of housing for first time buyers and I am absolutely delighted to be at the forefront of such an important Department which has achieved on behalf of Government since 2001, provision of financial assistance to more than 1100 eligible first time buyers to get a foothold on the property ladder. Since 1st April, 2010 to date it has been a bumper year for the new Department of Social Care in terms of Housing delivery, for both public sector and first time buyer provision.” Miss Manning, is one of the first people to move into her property on Ridgeway Road and she is very satisfied with her new home. She said: “I am so happy to have just bought my first home with the help of the Scheme. Both the Government and Heritage Homes have been very helpful at every step along the way. My house is lovely, in a brilliant location, close to both family and work, and my little boy is so happy with our new home, right next to Onchan Park. I am pleased to finally be on the property ladder, as without the help from the Department I would not have been able to afford to buy a property on the open market.” Member for Housing Bill Henderson MHK said: “The standard of the properties developed is excellent and we have worked closely with our contractor to ensure they have been built to our specification. It is important these homes are to a decent standard to provide accommodation for many years to come.” - ENDS –
