The Island's Newest Gallery Giving Artists The Freedom To Flourish!

by isleofman.com 21st March 2011
Karl Garrett is the winner of the Norman Sayle Prize for Art 2010 and is an accomplished artist and sculptor. Having successfully studied for a BTEC Foundation in Art he is currently studying for HND in Fine Art at Isle of Man College. He has increased in confidence through gaining qualifications, coveted prizes and the numerous exhibitions he has been asked to contribute to which include Mannin Art Group 60th Anniversary Exhibition, Manx Museum and Easter 2011 Lament & Hope, St German’s Cathedral, Peel. This new found confidence has encouraged him to open his own Gallery. “Garretts Gallery” will open its doors for business on Saturday 9th April 2011 at 10am. The Official Opening Ceremony will be carried out by Hon. David Cretney MHK – Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure at 12pm (noon). Following the opening the Gallery will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Gallery will provide a facility for both Solo and Joint Exhibitions for local Artists. Additionally, conscious of the shortage of suitable exhibition space on the Island, he is keen to encourage and provide an opportunity for some of his fellow art students to have somewhere to display their work. Karl says “Many of the Island’s established artists are already well known and their artwork is regularly displayed and purchased, however, there are many Artists whose talent has yet to be seen in public and I really hope that “Garretts Gallery” will be able to provide exhibition space for those Artists in order that fresh new talent can be seen on the Island” Karl also has ambitions to develop collaborative relationships with the art organisations on the Island and run workshops and studio sessions for like-minded artists. “As an artist, I am interested in sculpture, painting and photography and want Garretts Gallery to become THE venue for fresh, new, talent and aspiring modern and contemporary artists on the Island!” Please come along to Garretts Gallery, Unit 11, Kirby Farm Industrial Estate, Vicarage Road, Braddan www.garrettsgallery.webs.com Ends
