The Show Will Go On

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2011
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure is optimistic that tonight’s production of Anything Goes will go ahead as scheduled at the Gaiety Theatre. Last night’s performance (22nd March) had to be cancelled following damage caused to the Theatre’s emergency lighting by a burst pipe. A replacement part has been ordered to repair the damage and will be installed as soon as possible. Until permanent repairs can be completed, the Theatre’s electricians are fitting a temporary generator to power the emergency lighting, to the satisfaction of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, said: ‘What happened was extremely unfortunate and we offer our sincere apologies to everyone disappointed by last night’s cancellation. We are doing everything possible to ensure the remainder of the show’s performances can go ahead.’ A further announcement will be made around 4pm to confirm the temporary repair has been successful and the Theatre is permitted to open. An additional matinee performance of Anything Goes will be staged at 2.30pm on Saturday (26th March). All tickets for last night’s cancelled performance are automatically transferred and are valid for the additional performance. The Villa Marina and Villa Marina Arcade have not been affected in the incident and business continues as normal. -Ends-
