Grenaby Artists Exhibition April

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2011
Grenaby Artists back at the airport. Grenaby artists will open their latest exhibition on April 1st 2011 at Ronaldsway Airport. They choose the airport to show their work as it has the biggest footfall of all buildings in the island and feedback from a wide audience provides invaluable critique. The show ends on April 30th 2011. Currently in residence at the studios are Simon Capelen, Graham Hall, Caroline Cameron and Krista Magee. The work includes sculpture by Simon, Graham and Krista as well as wall hung art works by Caroline, Krista and Sarah Jane Comish. Grenaby Artists Studios opened in Nov 2005. Funded by Simon and Kate Maddrell of Ballamaddrell who wanted to make their unused farm buildings provide a useful facility for the community, bringing life into old buildings and to make the Manx countryside work again. Kate says, “Artists need time and space to explore their understanding of being an artist. Maturing their ideas and concepts and the opportunity to work with other artists in an atmosphere of mutual cooperation and ideas.” Simon says, “From what we’ve seen of the artist and their creative, industrious, dynamic input into a small place like Grenaby we think the future is bright for the regeneration of smaller communities. The Isle of Man can be linked from its smaller communities, somewhere where we want to live and work. We have become a Centre of Excellence for Arts in the South.” We would like to thank the airport for their support. Ends
