"Identifying Election Issues" - Next P A G Public Meeting

by isleofman.com 25th March 2011
With 6 months to the General Election, Positive Action Group (P A G) will attempt, at its next public meeting, on Monday 28th March, to try and identify issues that are of concern to the electorate. The political lobby group is keen to get feedback from the public and at the same time to raise awareness of the whole Election process. Five years ago P A G flagged up Freedom of Information as a vital issue. The Brown Government subsequently promised to introduce an F O I Act, but it has not delivered A spokesman commented "We must learn from the experience in 2006 that with the I O M political system it is very difficult to hold politicians to account for promises they make before elected. If we can identify a limited number of topics that people are worried about right now it is more likely that successful candidates will direct their energies accordingly. We don't just want to hear from our supporters. It's important to learn the views of a broad cross section of people" "Voters only have the opportunity every 5 years to influence the direction of Island politics and we need to grasp it". “This time we want politicians to fulfill all their promises and carry out the will of the electorate”. “Identifying Election Issues” starts at 7.30 p.m. on Monday 28th March 2011 at the Manx Legion Club, Market Hill, Douglas Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free.
