The Buchan School Celebrates…In French

by isleofman.com 29th March 2011
P1 (Reception) Pupils and their parents at The Buchan School took part in a French Day this week. The children have been learning French for two terms now after being introduced to the subject at age four by a specialist teacher. The French Day consisted of various Easter-themed activities including tasting traditional French food, reading French stories and rhymes and taking part in a French themed Easter bonnet parade. Pupils also got the opportunity to learn a French song from one of the parents. The concluding activity of the day was an Easter Egg Hunt in the wooded area in the school grounds, where parents and children had to decipher clues in the French language. Hannah Newton, Early Years Co-ordinator at The Buchan School commented on the day: “Every half term, parents are invited into school to take part in an activity so that they are involved as much as possible in their child's education. The goal of the French Day was to give pupils an opportunity to put their knowledge into practice and to demonstrate to parents what they have learnt in French lessons so far this year. We chose this time of year because an Easter egg hunt is so much fun for the children, but we wanted to make it more of a challenge. It was a great day and a fantastic learning experience for the children.” Ends
