Free Train Trip Treat for Mums on Mother’s Day

by isleofman.com 29th March 2011
Mums accompanied by their children can claim a free train ride on the Isle of Man Steam Railway this Sunday (April 3). The Mother’s Day treat has been arranged to enable people to say ‘thanks mum’ with a train trip between Douglas and Port Erin. Steam trains depart both Douglas and Port Erin at 9.50am, 11.50am, 1.50pm and 3.50pm on Sunday. For a family of four with one child under five and another child aged five to 15 years, only dad will need to buy a seat costing ?11.60 for Douglas to Port Erin return or ?10 to go from Douglas to Castletown return (?7.20 Castletown-Port Erin). Alternatively, a child aged five to 15 paying ?5 to ride to Castletown from Douglas (?3.60 from Port Erin) or ?5.80 Port Erin-Douglas return can take mum for free. A tot aged up to four years and mum both ride free on Sunday. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, said: ‘The Mother’s Day treat on the steam railway is the first of a varied programme of special events planned on the Heritage Railways this summer. I hope lots of people take the chance to say thank you to their mum and claim a free trip.’ Additionally, mums can use their free tickets to claim a free Mother’s Day cupcake at Port Erin Station’s Whistlestop Cafe or a free gift at the Tickethall in Douglas with afternoon tea. Full details of the offer are available online: http://www.iombusandrail.info/mothersday.html Gift vouchers are available from Douglas Railway station and the Welcome Centre. These make great presents and can be used to buy tickets for special events such as the Snaefell Sunset Dinners, Hop-tu-naa Ghost trains or Santa Trains. Residents’ Season Tickets continue to offer great value for money. They are priced the same as last year at ?50 per adult and ?25 per child and are valid for unlimited travel on all scheduled Manx Electric Railway, Snaefell Mountain Railway and Steam Railway services for the 2011 operational season. Please note they are not valid for additional special events put on throughout the year, such as the Manx Heritage Transport Festival and the Santa Trains. Download the application form here: http://www.iombusandrail.info/information.html or pop into the Isle of Man Welcome Centre or main stations to obtain one. The Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, Douglas, is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm. A passport sized photograph will be required for each applicant. -Ends-
