The Villa Marina Arcade will play host to a unique fine art and music event on Monday (April 4).
Castletown-based artist Juan Moore will exhibit his third show in the Welcome to The Neighbourhood project, which have been inspired by original music that will be performed by top local bands including Planes Over Paris, Anna Goldsmith and Christy Dehaven. The musical line-up is completed by The Heights, Simon Campbell and Cohiba.
GigHibition, supported by the IoM Arts Council, starts at 7pm in the Villa Arcade and admission is free.
Juan Moore said: ‘My aim with the Welcome to the Neighbourhood project was to bring my work to a wide audience. I want to cut through the pretension you sometimes get with fine art because it’s something everyone can appreciate and you shouldn’t need a degree.’
The artworks on show in the GigHibition have been directly inspired by the original music. It follows Part 1 of the project Carpe Diem (Fish of the Day) exhibited on November 1 at Tanroagan fish restaurant, which welcomed more than 300 people through the doors in a single night. Part 2 One Night Stand was exhibited at the Courthouse bar in Douglas on January 17.
For anyone who misses any of the exhibitions, all of the artworks from each of the Welcome to the Neighbourhood project shows will be brought together in a showcase at the Manx Museum on July 16.
Juan Moore added: ‘Monday is a bit different. It’s a music gig and art exhibition rolled into one. All the artwork is based on music the musicians have written and will be performing – 27 pieces in total. I hope people just come along and enjoy it.’
As well as undertaking fine art, Juan works as an illustrator for UK and US magazines, newspapers and publishers.
Mr Gill, MHK, Arts Council Chairman said “The Arts Council continues to support local artists and this event will combine music with visual art, it will be an exciting event with lots of great music as well as Juan’s latest work. Welcome to the Neighbourhood has been an important project for the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure as it has focussed on bringing art out of its more usual environments and into the wider community in a variety of inventive ways.”
