The first DofE Awards have been achieved on the new online system, eDofE.
In September 2009 the award launched its new system for young people to manage their bronze, silver & gold awards online, the Isle of Man took it up in October 2009. This system enables young people to check their progress and upload evidence to support the activities they are taking part in. It is also much easier for Award Leaders who are able to see and monitor their participants’ progression.
This is a complete change from the old system of logbooks and is proving a challenge all round, but now the first young people have completed others are quickly following suit.
The first Bronze Awards through were Emma Lloyd-Williams and Richard Creer from QEII High School and Caitlin Maddrell from the Foundry Youth Group. The first Silvers through were Conor Crowe and Abigail Verschueren from St Ninian’s High School.
Alison Gawne, Awards’ Co-ordinator for the Department of Education and Children, said: “I am very excited and proud that these young people have achieved their awards through the online system. It has been a steep learning curve and the system is constantly being improved and updated, which is keeping us all on our toes. I would like to say very well done to all those young people who have persevered and to the Award Leaders who have supported them through this period of change.”
The DofE Award continues to be popular with the Island’s young people with up to 600 taking part at Bronze, Silver and Gold during the year and over 100 completing each year.
