Skanco Sails Into Another Year With The Douglas Bay Yacht Club

by isleofman.com 30th March 2011
Local professional IT services provider, Skanco Business Systems Ltd. has announced its support for the Douglas Bay Yacht Club for another year. Skanco has been a sponsor of the Club for 9 years with additional support for the Skanco Evening Race Series. As the summer season approaches, the Club will be hosting a number of events with the help and support of Skanco. ‘Boating for Beginners’ courses have been running every Tuesday from 7 – 9:30pm since 8th March and will continue until 5th April. An open day will be held for anyone interested in joining the Club on 18th June and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings the public are invited to watch Skanco employees brave the rough Irish Sea in the Evening Race Series. David Butterworth, Managing Director of Skanco, highlights a strong link between the IT business and the Douglas Bay Yacht Club: “Over the past nine years we have built up a solid relationship with the Douglas Bay Yacht Club and got to know the organisation inside out. One of our own, Neil Andrews, is a member of the Club and has completed several theory courses. “This year, Skanco employees are also looking forward to taking part in the racing events over the summer as well as our first Skanco Staff Sailing Day on the 15th May. Skanco continuously looks to develop strong ties with the community and we are pleased to be associated with the Douglas Bay Yacht Club.” Commodore of the Douglas Bay Yacht Club, Mike McMahon appreciates the ongoing support: “I like to think we have a great relationship with Skanco. They have helped us with computer technical assistance to run the Club more efficiently and have supported our competitive racing activities. In return we are more than happy to provide sailing lessons and crewing opportunities for their staff”. The Douglas Bay Yacht Club has been running sailing and racing programmes for over a century. Now an approved RYA Training Centre, DBYC offers sailing and boating courses from beginner to proficient levels. The Club also holds regular Handicap Racing and has a full fleet of both cruiser and racing yachts as well as motorboats.
