Request For Information

by isleofman.com 30th March 2011
Police in the Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team are asking members of the public to assist in identifying those responsible for several incidents of criminal damage which have occurred in the Langness area of Castletown. On Thursday 24th March it was discovered that fence posts and a gate which line a cliff edge had been removed and thrown down onto the rocks below making this area particularly unsafe for people to walk or exercise their animals. Wire fencing in the area has been cut away from fence posts and also discarded over the cliff edge. A gate has been removed from a small bridge which leads out to the old lighthouse fog-horn and minor damage caused within the lighthouse complex itself where a gate post has been removed from the ground. Sgt Rosie Hawes of the SNPT said “As I am sure people are aware, this area of land and access to it, is currently being dealt with by the High Court and no final decisions in relation to access rights have currently been made. From a Policing point I would say that no person has the right to damage any property not belonging to them. This area is well used by the public for recreational purposes and I would urge anybody who may have seen anyone causing damage in the area or who has any information in relation to this matter to please contact me at Port Erin Police Station or speak with any Police Officer”. This and other appeals and information relating to the Policing of The South of The Island can be found on the SNPT website by visiting www.gov.im/snpt. Anyone who has information about this incident should contact Port Erin Police Station on 832222. Ends
