A BBC Television unit have visited the Island this week in preparation for their live broadcast of the Maundy Thursday Service from Westminster Abbey on the Queens’s 85th birthday. Outdoor filming with John Kennaugh of St John’s saw them brave some wet, windy and misty conditions on the hills with the sheep in lamb. There was a buzz of excitement In much cosier conditions when some of the forty recipients from the Island of the Maundy Purses and Money gathered in the Methodist Chapel at St John’s to enjoy an afternoon tea with some excellent home-made cakes and buns. The tea provided the opportunity for a large number of the recipients to meet and get to know each other prior to their to their once-in-a –lifetime trip to London. Bishop Robert spoke with those gathered, thanking those who had worked hard arranging the tea for their hospitality and all for gathering together. Ends
