by isleofman.com 1st April 2011
The annual ‘Round the Island’ yacht race will be sponsored by IOMA Fund and Investment Management for the second year running. The event, which was first held in 1953 for the Coronation Cup, is run by the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club (MS&CC). This year’s event is due to take place on Sunday 1st May, with prizes for the winners of a range of yacht classes and divisions to be awarded on the Monday after. The race starts and ends at Ramsey harbour and the course runs counter-clockwise around the Island. It starts at 10am and usually takes around twelve hours to complete. IOMA Fund and Investment Management are part of the IOMA Group, one of the longest established financial service businesses on the Island. IOMA Group are heavily involved in yachting on the Island, having also sponsored the National 18’ Championships organised by the IoM Yacht Club in 2010. Philip Scales, Managing Director of IOMA Fund and Investment Management, commented: “We are very happy to be supporting this event for a second year. IOMA Group’s founding partners built and sailed a Viking longship from Norway to the Isle of Man in 1979 and we have a strong link to the Island’s seafaring heritage. Sponsoring this event is a way of providing support in a way relevant to our traditions and origins.” ENDS
