The Department of Economic Development has announced that it will be hosting its 6th Energy Expo on Friday 6th (12 noon – 5pm) and Saturday 7th May (10am – 4pm) at the Isle of Man College.
The theme of this year’s event is renewable energy in the Isle of Man but visitors to the Expo will also be able to get advice on all aspects of saving energy and sustainable living. Many businesses and organisations will be taking part and they will be highlighting the practical solutions that can be taken to be more efficient at home and in the workplace.
Highlights of the Expo 2011 will be a trade exhibition, a ‘green groups area’, the Energy Champion Awards, a ‘Question Time’ for gardeners, as well as promotion of local produce.
Minister for Economic Development, Allan Bell MHK commented: “The Energy Expo will provide a platform for local businesses and Government Departments to come together with a similar aim to save energy and reduce energy costs. In the current economic climate, with fuel costs continuing to increase, it is important that the opportunities for the Island to benefit from the use of renewable energy are carefully considered. We are intensifying our efforts to attract inward investment in the Clean Tech sector, which we hope will help create new jobs in the Island through providing low carbon goods and services.”
Mrs Clare Christian, Department Member with responsibility for Energy added: “The Energy Expo is a perfect opportunity for residents and local businesses to find out about the latest energy saving ideas which can help bring down energy bills. It is also a very useful event for the Government to keep everyone informed about the latest developments in the Island’s energy policy.”
