Team Isle of Man – Microgaming’s junior team take part in the second counting event in the British national junior road race series this weekend - the two-day Tour of Bristol. After an incident packed first event the team will be looking to change their luck over the two stages. Saturday’s (April 9) first stage covers 117km and is based around a 13km circuit of Chew Valley Lake. There will be no time to take in the scenery of the lake and the Mendip Hills as there will be sprint bonuses and several short but steep climbs on each lap.
Stage two on Sunday is usually where the overall winner is decided. What the stage lacks in distance it more than makes up for in severity with five category three climbs including the ascent to the finish line. This takes the riders into the Mendip Hills and close to the Cheddar Gorge, all compacted into a hectic 100km.
The four man Team Isle of Man - Microgaming squad is Jonathan Cregeen, Tom Mazzone, Warwick Sanderson and Alex Haddock. All have shown promising form recently with Jonathan, Tom and Warwick in particular featuring prominently in last weekend’s Tour of the Middle around St Marks. Jonathan finished an excellent fifth after featuring in the break most of the race against most of the Island Games senior hopefuls.
Junior team manager Gary Mazzone said:
“It’s good to see the work that the lads have put in over the winter is starting to pay off. They have also started to ride better as a team and this weekend will be a big test for them as a unit. A good result for the team here will put them all in the right frame of mind for the Sleepwell Junior Tour here on the Island at the end of the month.”
