The Department of Education and Children is pleased to announce that Ian Longshaw has been appointed Headteacher of Marown Primary School.
Mr Longshaw, who is currently School Improvement Adviser for the Manx Curriculum, will succeed Carol Walsh in September 2011. Mrs Walsh will move to head Ballacottier Primary School following the retirement of John Rhodes this summer.
Mr Longshaw graduated from the University of North Wales, Bangor, with a BEd degree. He was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in 2006, followed by a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Manchester University in 2009.
He started his teaching career in 1991 at Rushen Primary School. In 1998 he became deputy headteacher at Fairfield Junior School and he was promoted to the role of headteacher there in 2005.
He took up his current position in the Department in 2008. This role sees him responsible for developing the Manx curriculum and overseeing English as an Additional Language support for pupils Island-wide.
Mr Longshaw said: ‘I will be sad to leave my current position within the Education Improvement Service as it is an exciting and very varied role and, in addition, I have enjoyed working closely with 10 schools and the Primary Modern Languages service as school improvement adviser.
‘However, I was really impressed with the warm welcome I received when I went to look around Marown School this week prior to my interview and I am looking forward to getting to know pupils, parents and staff better when I take up my position in September.’
Mr Longshaw is married to Nicola, who teaches at Arbory Primary School, and they have three children, daughters Kira, 16, and Neve, 13, who attend Castle Rushen High School, and son Ben, who is two. They live in Port St Mary. He enjoys reading and cooking.
Marown School has 192 pupils on its register.
