The Curraghs Wildlife Park opens daily for the summer season from Saturday (April 9).
Children can enjoy the return of the Easter Egg treasure hunt throughout the school holidays while new for 2011 is a jungle-themed adventure play area.
Significant investment in the Close Beg area of the Park sees the provision of new play equipment, the inner section suitable for under eights plus the outer area aimed at eight to 14 year olds. Meanwhile, the indoor play area has also been refurbished.
Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, who is pictured in the new play area, said: ‘This is an exciting new development in a popular area of the Park near the meerkats. It includes a 20 metre zip wire – aerial runway – plus jungle climbers for older children, along with new equipment to entertain the Park’s younger visitors. I am sure it will be really popular.’
Curraghs Wildlife Park is open from 10am until 6pm daily from tomorrow (Saturday, April 9) until the end of October. It gives visitors the chance to go round the world in 80 minutes – seeing animals in geographical enclosures ranging from the flamingos and Humbolt penguins (South American Pampas) to the wallabies (Australian bush) and red pandas (Asia).
Another popular attraction is the Orchid Line miniature railway, which is operated by enthusiasts on Sundays from April 10 throughout the summer.
•The Friends of the Wildlife Park are currently recruiting for new volunteers. Potential volunteer jobs involve: Assisting with the Young Friends’ meetings and activities, Animal Encounter presentations, Ranger volunteers and assisting in the grounds and gardens and with construction projects. There are also a limited number of volunteer keeper roles.
