Mayor Hosts Dot’s Dream Foundation Launch

by isleofman.com 11th April 2011
Douglas Mayor Ritchie McNicholl hosted a reception to launch Dot’s Dream Foundation, a new Manx-registered charity founded in memory of Mrs Dot Pitts, a former Mayor of Douglas and long-standing friend of Councillor McNicholl, who passed away in 2010. In welcoming family members, friends and supporters of Dot Pitts to the reception in Douglas town hall’s council chamber the Mayor commented on the large number of attendees, which was testament, he said, to the great affection and high esteem in which she was held. Dot’s Dream Foundation aims to continue the charitable work begun by Dot Pitts who raised more than ?36,000 during her mayoral year, 2008-2009. Among the objectives of the new charity is to raise funds to help the fight against cancer and to provide facilities for cancer patients and their families, or as one of her daughters, Nicola Walkingshaw, explained, 'helping to make life normal' and she added that the intention had been set up the charity 'with very broad purposes' to help other charities. Dot’s Dream Foundation is to be one of the charities to benefit from the Mayor’s 2011-2012 charity appeal fund. Fundraising events planned for 2011 include a Hot Gossip Hair Day (May 15), Cycle the TT Course, (July 9), MV Karina trip (July 30) and an ‘Oompah’ Night (October 8).
