Isle of Man-based Manx2.com is to operate flights between Cardiff and the Isle of Man for the duration of the TT festival. The route from the Welsh capital will run through practice week until the end of race week, 27 May – 12 June.
Manx2.com arranged the TT special after receiving several requests from Welsh race fans during the last year. Chairman of Manx2.com, Noel Hayes said: ‘We had many enquiries about a direct flight from Cardiff to the Isle of Man, so have added this route for the TT festival. With this year marking 100 years of the Mountain Course, we’re giving more fans the opportunity to come and experience this great event.
‘With our other Welsh routes proving very popular, we may even look at adding Cardiff – Isle of Man to our regular timetable.’
Manx2.com will operate three return journeys during the period with fares starting at ?59.95 including taxes and charges. It coincides with the launch of a special summer season of flights between Anglesey and the Isle of Man and the start of a four year contract with the Welsh Assembly Government to operate flights between Anglesey and Cardiff.
Geoff Corkish MBE MHK, Political Member for Isle of Man Tourism, said: ‘Manx2 is again showing itself to be a champion for the Isle of Man, re-instating this route during such a busy and important fortnight. With this service, along with the summer schedule from Anglesey, we’re very much looking forward to welcoming more Welsh visitors to the Island this year.’
Cardiff Airport’s Head of Commercial Operations and Air Services Development, Spencer Birns, said: ‘We’re delighted Manx2 has decided to operate TT specials from Cardiff Airport. The world famous Isle of Man TT service will no doubt prove popular with bikers, and we’re also hoping to welcome some visitors to Cardiff from the Isle of Man during the period. Alongside Manx2.com’s Cardiff to Anglesey route this further helps us expand our connectivity throughout the British Isles.’
