Marathon Mums to Raise Funds for Age Concern Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 15th April 2011
Two mothers, with six young children between them, are in training for the Belfast City Marathon. Nicola Lewthwaite, 40, from Castletown, a school administrator at Victoria Road primary school has teamed up with Bronwen Raatgever, 41, from Ronague to run in the marathon that starts from Belfast City Hall and finishes at the city’s Ormeau Park on bank holiday Monday May 2. Nicola has three children under 13 and Bronwen three under 11, but despite their busy family lives the two friends have found time to train in earnest since they took the decision last Christmas to enter their first marathon. Nicola said: ‘We’ve both been running just for general fitness for a while but since signing up for the Belfast marathon we’re following a structured training programme. Victoria Road School has been doing very well in inter-schools sporting activities recently and all my colleagues and the pupils there have been tremendously encouraging and the head teacher, Caroline Savin, has been very supportive. And the training’s been going so well that we’ve also decided to put our names down for this year’s Parish Walk.’ To sponsor Nicola and Bronwen contact Age Concern’s Carole Male, carol.male@ageconcerniom.com, telephone 613044 or call in to Age Concern Isle of Man, 19 Drinkwater Street, Douglas, IM1 1AT. www.ageconcerniom.com - Ends -
