CIPD Isle of Man Group Thursday 12 May 2011 Venue: Broadway Cinema, Villa Marina, Douglas. This interactive event will give you a unique insight into how the Manx Employment Tribunal works. This is a must-attend event for anyone in HR, company directors and owners, managers, employers or anyone whose role may be affected by an Employment Tribunal. Using real cases that have been lodged on the Isle of Man, this will be a safe way to witness and interact with the proceedings without actually being at the real thing! All delegates will be issued with a CIPD IOM Certificate of Attendance. An Insight into the Manx Employment Tribunal: It will be delivered by two local Advocates; Caren Hyde from Appleby and John Aycock from M&P Legal, both of whom have extensive experience appearing before the Employment Tribunal, and who will act as Counsel for the Claimant and the Respondent at this event. The session will give you an insight into what to expect at a Tribunal and will cover several issues that commonly crop up. Delegates will be able to observe the legal arguments presented by Counsel to Jerry Carter from Carters, who will act as Chair at this event. The session won’t cover the full hearing so there won’t be any witnesses but all evidence will be provided in writing and will be made available to delegates before the hearing. During the session there will be opportunities to pause proceedings so that John and Caren can explain their arguments. At the end, the Chair will deliver the Tribunal’s decision and there will be a final opportunity to ask any questions.
