Cyclists looking for an adventure this summer are being urged to sign up for the Fenella to Flamborough Head Challenge. The event, which will raise funds for The Children’s Centre, involves cycling coast to coast across the Isle of Man and England.
The 181-mile challenge is run over three days from July 15 - 17. The first day of riding begins at 6am at Fenella Beach in Peel and riders will cycle across the Island in time to catch the ferry to England. Upon arrival in Heysham it’s straight back in the saddle to begin the epic 170-mile ride to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire.
On the way the route passes through some of northern England’s most beautiful scenery. The route will be on roads which are part of the Sustrans cycle route - so a road bike or mountain bike with road tyres will be adequate. Along the way there will be stops at cycle friendly, inns, pubs, hotels and cafes. It’s not a race so the event is suitable for recreational cyclists and groups of riders will be matched depending on their ability.
All money raised from this event will be utilised by The Children’s Centre to help support children, young people and families across the Isle of Man. Mark Eastham, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Children’s Centre, said:
“The Fenella To Flamborough Head Challenge presents a unique opportunity to cycle the breadth of the Isle of Man and England taking in some breathtaking scenery along the way. This is a challenge open to all cyclists; with ‘seeded’ speed groups there’s something for everyone.”
