Wagon Blow Up Puts Mission To Romania In Jeopardy

by isleofman.com 21st April 2011
What was described as a catastrophic engine failure to a wagon being donated to Florian Isle of Man almost put pay to the delivery of clothing and medical supplies. The clothing most of which was for children had been donated by local people from the Island and was destined for the needy and orphanages in the Cravia region of Romania. The wagon was due to drive the 1500-mile journey along with a fire appliance donated by Firefighters from County Laois Fire and Rescue Service in Ireland. The Fire appliance is due on the Island tomorrow on the Isle of Man Steam Packets vessel Manannan from Dublin and will be fitted out here on the Island prior to setting of on the 29th April. Luckily for the Humanitarian Group they have managed to obtain a replacement wagon locally so the mission is fully back on track. The mission Co-ordinator Danny Dooley said “It was touch and go for a while, especially as all the people had given up holidays to assist on this run” on the lighter side he also said “It is lucky the wagon decided to go bang before and not half way through the trip as it would be a heck of a thing to push to Romania” Florian would like to thank all those who assisted in this operation and especially the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company who again have assisted with the transporting of the teams and vehicles.
