The Isle of Man Archery Club is pleased to announce the Squad for the Island Games in Isle of Wight 2011 which has now been finalised. The squad will consist of teams in each of the two disciplines, together with a Team Manager and an Assistant Team Manager. There will be a good range of archers including one newcomer to the Island Games providing a mix of both youth and experience.
The Recurve Team includes the Island’s top recurve Lady archer, Charlotte George and also Alex Snell who won an individual gold medal in Aland. Also shooting in the recurve discipline will be Tony Hartley and Dave Berry who both competed in Aland and they will be joined by newcomer Anne Rutland who joins the squad having progressed steadily over the past year.
The Compound Team includes Under 21 Sportswoman of the Year and GB Junior Squad archer Aalin George who came home with an individual silver and a team silver medal at the last Games. Sarah Rigby, the Island’s first ever Grand Master Bowman will shoot with Aalin in the Ladies division. Sarah took both individual gold medals at the Aland Games and set no less than five new Games records. She was also a member of the silver medal winning team. The Gents team will consist of Allan George, who has competed in the last three Games, together with Peter Mumford who is the most experienced archer and has competed in the Archery event in every Games since it was included as a sport in Guernsey in 1987. This constitutes a formidable mixed Compound Team who will definitely be gunning for medals this year having missed out on gold by only 4 points at the last Games.
The Teams will be under the watchful eye of Alison Cowin who is the Team Manager, ably assisted by former Games competitor Joy Gough as Assistant Team Manager.
