Team Isle of Man - Microgaming Juniors at Gorey Three Day

by isleofman.com 28th April 2011
Team Isle of Man – Microgaming’s junior team had a tough workout over the Easter weekend at the Gorey Three Day in Ireland. The race, 185 miles over four stages, was open to category two and three seniors as well as juniors and attracted the Irish national junior squad. They provided the runner up on overall classification with Conor Mcilwaine finishing only five seconds down on veteran winner David Cassidy. In fact, the top 10 places were covered by just over a minute. The highlight of the stage placings for the Manx team was seventh on stage one for Tom Mazzone. This didn’t really reflect the effort the team put in as they tried to put some time into some of their rivals and they were heavily marked by their Irish counterparts. Mazzone also achieved a 10th and 12th on stages three and four with Alex Haddock finishing in the same time in the main bunch. Final overall positions were: 30th - Tom Mazzone @ 1m 36s; 63rd - Alex Haddock @ 2mins; 66th - Warwick Sanderson @ 2m 6s. Tim Cole didn’t finish. The Isle of Man team may well have seen their main competition for this weekend’s Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man Youth Tour, a national series event. Three of the Irish team that won the team competition at Gorey will be racing the Youth Tour. Team Isle of Man – Microgaming’s squad for the Youth Tour is Tom Mazzone, Alex Haddock, Warwick Sanderson, Tim Cole, Jack Wolstencroft and Jonathan Cregeen. - ENDS -
