New Website’s All Singing and Dancing!

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2011
www.manxmusic.com is a new website from the Manx Heritage Foundation which aims to bring you everything you need to know about the music and dance of the Isle of Man. Whether you’re a musician, singer or dancer, or someone just interested in Celtic and world music, this site will keep you up to date with events listings, details of performers and their recordings, as well as news items from the Isle of Man and further afield. There’s also the opportunity to learn tunes and songs and find sessions and dance groups which welcome new members. The Manx music and dance scene is much more vibrant than it once was – it’s commonplace to see and hear performers at most community events and for ceili bands to be booked for weddings. In fact, there’s an exciting array of traditional and contemporary interpretations of Manx material – costumed dance groups line up alongside traditional and electro-acoustic bands, and unaccompanied Gaelic choirs rub shoulders with skilled instrumentalists. www.manxmusic.com also brings together information about the history of a wide range of genres within Manx music – including church, concert, music hall, West Gallery and traditional music – as well as details of the development of Manx dance. This rich musical heritage is displayed within the Database pages which catalogue all known pieces of Manx music and writings about it as well as free downloads of sheet music and sound files. The site also details the work of the MHF Music Team, which regularly leads workshops in schools and in the community and develops new resources.
