Don’t Forget – Energy Expo 2011

by isleofman.com 4th May 2011
The Department of Economic Development would like to remind everyone that it will be hosting Energy Expo 2011 at the Isle of Man College on Friday 6th (between 12 noon and 5pm) and Saturday 7th May (between 10am and 4pm) 2011. At the Expo you can obtain advice on all aspects of saving energy and sustainable living from the many businesses and organisations taking part. A selection of local food and other producers will also be in attendance on Saturday to showcase what is available locally rather than buying off-Island which helps to reduce carbon emissions by cutting down on the number of miles to transport the goods. The Bright Ideas School Competition Entries will be on display at the Expo highlighting the efforts made by the younger generations to demonstrate their perceptions on how we will live, work and play in the future. The popular Growers’ Question Time will be held at 2pm on the Saturday. This is a perfect opportunity to obtain priceless gardening and growing tips from a panel of experts made up from a hand-picked crop of the Island’s best growers and gardeners. Their knowledge and expertise is second to none and they will hope to provide solutions for your gardening problems. For those interested in the marine environment, the Marine Spatial Planning Officer will be holding a workshop at 11am on the Saturday to gather input into the future development and conservation of our territorial waters. You will also find the Marine Planning Team at their stand within the exhibition hall. Minister for Economic Development, Allan Bell MHK commented: “I would encourage all those interested in learning more about energy and energy saving to visit the Energy Expo. You will discover a whole host of businesses and non-profit organisations on hand who will be happy to offer advice and guidance.” Mrs Clare Christian, Department Member with responsibility for Energy added: “I am looking forward to this year’s Energy Expo as I believe this is an especially important event to raise awareness of energy efficiency and savings. It also provides an opportunity for local businesses to show case their energy efficiency and renewable energy products.” ENDS
