The Isle of Man Lions Club launched the "Art from Photographs" competition on Tuesday, 3rd May, at Laxey Woollen Mills and from the winning entries are going to produce a calendar to raise funds for the on-going Manx Children in Need Appeal. The idea of the competition is to showcase the manipulation of digital photos into works of art using any of the many software packages available. All images must be taken and manipulated by the entrant and no third party images or clipart may be added.
There are three categories to enter - professionals (who have been allocated three months of the calendar), amateurs (who have six months) and under 16s (who have three months). Entry forms and rules of the competition are available from photo clubs, schools, members of the Lions Club or the Lions Club website - www.iomlions.org There are three experienced judges who will carry out the judging without knowing who has submitted the entries.
Entries for the competition, supplied as prints no smaller than 7" x 5", together with a thumbnail of the original photo and a brief description of the software and method used, should be sent to "Lions Club Art from Photography Competition", c/o 19 Sunnydale Avenue, Port Erin IM9 6EU and should be received before the closing date of 31st July, 2011. The winners of the classes will be notified during August and the calender will be on sale in September.
There will be 11 prizes for the entrants whose artwork is chosen for the calendar with a larger prize awarded by the judges for the best overall image. Any firms or individuals who would like to help in sponsoring the awards can contact the Lions Club on 661838 and there will be a page on the calender dedicated to sponsors.
