Company’s Boost for Youth Club

by isleofman.com 10th May 2011
Laxey and Lonan Youth Club has been transformed by a fantastic donation from Royal London 360 of a leather sofa and matching chairs and two coffee tables. The youth club is held in the former GPs’ surgery in the centre of the village and attracts around 80 young people, aged 12 to 16, each week over three sessions. Grainne Burns, Youth Officer with the Department of Education and Children’s Youth Service, said: ‘It allows the young people to socialise with their friends, take part in a lively programme of activities and obtain information, advice and guidance on a range of issues from experienced youth workers. ‘The young people pay a weekly subscription, which is used to fund resources and equipment for them to use each session. A donation such as this one from Royal London 360 allows more of that money to go on fun items requested by the young people, rather than renewing the infrastructure and fabric of the club.’ The Youth Service operates 65 clubs and projects for young people aged nine and over.
