A team of seven charity cyclists are preparing to ride 970 miles from Lands End to John o’Groats to raise funds for charity. The team leave the Island on Friday May 20 and will start their ride from Lands End the following day. They expect to ride around 100 miles a day to reach John o’Groats on May 30.
Five riders are raising money for The Children’s Centre with funds going to fund the charity’s many projects on the Island. The five include two riders who work for the charity - Chief Executive John Knight and Residential Team Member Jim Murphy. Also riding for The Children’s Centre are Mark Humphrey, of Long and Humphrey Advocates, who is also a Director of The Children’s Centre, Isle of Man Cycling Association Chairman Steve Shimmin, who works for MAC Financial, and Andy Parker who is a personal trainer. Paul Warburton and Chris Palmer, who both work at Coutts, are raising money for the NSPCC which is the company’s chosen charity in the UK.
The team will be supported by a volunteer driver in a minibus which will carry the team’s food and equipment. The team thanked all of those who have pledged donations for the two charities, and added a thank you to Shoprite for sponsoring their cycling jerseys and the Bikestyle cycle shop on Bucks Road, Douglas, which has provided energy bars, drinks and cycle spares for the trip.
