by isleofman.com 12th May 2011
The IOM Cricket Association is delighted to announce a visit this summer to the IOM by OLD ENGLAND XI. The visit takes place over the weekend of 19th to 21st August 2011. The Old England XI is committed to assisting clubs with the development of the game and in fund-raising efforts. All have played for England in either One Day International’s or Test Series. The team is John Lever - Captain, Darren Bicknall, Paul Bicknall, Paul Jarvis, John Hardy, Warren Hegg, Geoff Humpage, Peter Martin, Neal Radford, Clive Radley, Derek Randall and Neil Smith. The team will be managed by Jim Parkes. Barry Smith, Chair of IOM Cricket Association said – “We certainly hope that this will be an extremely successful weekend for Isle of Man cricket generally. The IOMCA is a registered charity and funds are needed for the development of the game in the Isle of Man and to assist clubs with the development of facilities. All monies received for the weekend will be for the IOMCA once all costs are covered.” The IOMCA anticipates very full weekend with the Old England XI playing an Isle of Man XI on Friday, 19th August 2011 at Cronkbourne, followed by a dinner at dinner at Mount Murray on the evening of Friday, 19th August 2011. On the Saturday there will be a golf day at which various members of the Old England XI will be available to complete a four ball with various corporate teams, followed by a barbeque at Cronkbourne on the Saturday evening which will be an informal open event at which we hope many people will attend to be able to meet the players informally. IOMCA are looking forward to the weekend with great anticipation and hope that it will be extremely well supported by the Isle of Man. This will be a fantastic opportunity to watch former England players in action, and hopefully a lot of youth who are keen on cricket will be drawn to the game to watch some greats in action. To reserve a table (?500 for a table of ten) or seats at the dinner on Friday 19th August and or a Golf day package (?120 for a four ball) on Saturday 20th August , please contact John Wannenburgh on 07624 495749 or john@skunkworks.co.im. Places are limited and subject to availability. ENDS
