The Central Community Health Centre on Westmoreland Road has been officially opened by the Minister for Health Hon David Anderson MHK and the Minister for Social Care Hon Martyn Quayle MHK.
The official opening ceremony comes after a decade of changes on the Westmoreland Road site, the most significant being the decommissioning of the old Noble’s Hospital in 2003 and its demolition, which has been taking place over the past several weeks.
Despite these changes, the Westmoreland Road site continues as a hub for community health and social care provision, with a wide array of services available to the public from the Central Community Health Centre. The Centre will provide a wide range of services in response to demand for rising health and social care needs.
Minister for Health Hon David Anderson MHK said: “It has taken several years of work to adapt the facilities at the Central Community Health Centre and I am delighted that as a result we now have a truly first class health centre of which we can all be proud. I would like to extend my thanks to the staff of the Department’s Estates Services Directorate who, in conjunction with several contractors, have worked hard to develop these facilities over recent years.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the many dedicated health professionals who provide so many vital services from this site. These services are a fundamental part of protecting and enhancing the health of the people in our community. The variety of treatments and specialities available is striking, and shows the depth and breadth of exceptional health care available on our Island.”
Minister for Social Care Hon Martyn Quayle MHK said: “Community health and social care services are provided in close cooperation between colleagues in the Departments of Health and Social Care as well as other Departments plus our partners in the Island’s third sector of voluntary and charitable organisations. May I take this opportunity to pass on my appreciation to all the teams working in these buildings for the excellent work they do to help hundreds of people in our community to enjoy a good quality of life. While the services provided from this site over the last hundred years have changed significantly, the site continues to provide a key base for vital health and social care services to meet the needs of our community. May they continue to do so for another hundred years!”
