The Next ACE Designer Competition

Manx National Heritage supported by Conister Bank and the Department of Education and Children are re-launching the competition to design the front of the ACE cards (Arts, Culture and Education) for 2012. The ACE scheme has already proven to be very popular with local children, students and parents, with over 10,000 recorded visits since its launch in January last year. The ACE Card Scheme gives all under 18’s in full time education and resident on the Isle of Man, free admission to any Manx National Heritage sites making a family day out excellent value for money and also allowing over 12’s to explore their heritage independently. Two new winning designs will be chosen to feature on the front of the 2012 ACE cards which will be issued to children and students across the Island in the new term. In addition to having their design used on the card, the winner will also receive ?50 of art supplies for their classroom, courtesy of Conister Bank. For children and students who love getting creative, this competition is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate their artistic talents and use their imagination to the full. The design must be inspired by Manx heritage and can be a drawing, photograph, painting or even a digital image. The entry must also feature the card name “ACE” anywhere on the design. The two age categories for the competition are age 5 - 11 years inclusive and 12 – 18 years inclusive. Last year’s secondary school category was won by a student from Ballakermeen High School who opted to purchase a stylus pen and pad to help Ballakermeen High School Students take digital design to a whole new level. The junior category was won by a student from Cronk-y-Berry School, which received ?50 towards purchasing new art materials for the school. The ACE design competition is open to children and students from 5 – 18 years inclusive. Entries should be submitted in landscape format, no larger than A4. The entries should have the following information on the back: name and age of designer, school name and a contact telephone number for the school or parent. Entries cannot be returned. Send your entry to ACE Art and Design Competition, Manx Museum, Kingswood Grove, Douglas, Isle of Man IM1 3LY by 30th June 2011. ENDS
