A senior delegation from the Isle of Man Government, comprising Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK, Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK and Economic Development Minister Allan Bell MHK, was in London this week (Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10-11) for a series of meetings, including one with the Lord Mayor of London, Michael Bear, which focused on the importance of the Isle of Man’s relationship with the City of London.
As part of the Isle of Man Government’s ongoing programme to engage positively with its counterparts in the UK in order to promote a greater understanding of the Island, the delegation also hosted a reception with key City and media contacts, and met with the United Kingdom-Isle of Man (Manx) All-Party Parliamentary Group at the House of Commons.
Chief Minister said: ‘Our meetings provided an opportunity to emphasise our position as a country that is internationally responsible, enterprising and supportive of the British economy. We were able to deliver a strong message and raise awareness of the Island as a core asset to the City of London and wider global economy.’
‘It is ever more important that the Isle of Man maintains a high profile, both in the UK and London,’ Minister Craine explained: ‘The Island is a valuable asset to the City of London and events and meetings of this nature are an effective way to highlight this. They also offer us an opportunity to strengthen relationships with key figures in the City.’
Minister Bell added: ‘As part of the ongoing process to promote the Isle of Man as a world class international business centre, the reception was an ideal opportunity to draw attention to the appointment of Michael Charlton as the Island’s Director of International Development. The former Chief Executive of Think London, the award winning foreign direct investment agency for London, Michael will be responsible for driving new UK and international business to the Island.’
